Olivier & O’Connor Attorneys, established in March 1984 and formally incorporated on July 1st, 1998, has been under the stewardship of Managing Director Jakobus Johannes O’Connor (John) since its incorporation, following the dissolution of a prior partnership in May 1998. On February 25th, 2008, Mrs. Lizelle Slabbert was appointed as an Associate, thereafter appointed as Director in 2024.

Our firm places a strong emphasis on providing exceptional service. Recognising the fundamental importance of well-trained staff and effective management tools, we have long prioritised these elements to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality legal services.

Olivier & O’Connor specialises in the following areas of legal practice: conveyancing and notary services, property law, drafting of Last Will and Testaments, Antenuptial Agreements and Agreements relating to property.

We are particularly sensitive to our clients needs and known for our proficiency in conveyancing matters. As one of the oldest law firms in the South of Johannesburg we have developed a loyal clientele in the surrounding areas.

The Team

Jakobus Johannes O’Connor

Director

Mr. John O’Connor matriculated in 1972 and subsequently completed his B-Proc at the University of the Free State in 1977, following two years of national service. He was admitted as an attorney in 1982 and established his legal practice in partnership with Kevin Olivier in 1984. In 1991, he obtained admission as a Conveyancer and, in 1992, as a Notary Public. With over 30 years of experience in property law, Mr O’Connor has demonstrated his expertise in all aspects relating to the conveyancing field.

Lizelle Slabbert

Director

Lizelle Slabbert matriculated in 1994 and earned her B-Proc degree from the University of Johannesburg in 1998. She was admitted as an attorney in 2001, as a conveyancer in 2003, and as a notary public in 2004.

Mrs. Slabbert regularly attends seminars and conferences to remain updated on current legal implications and legislative changes. Mrs Slabbert heads the Transfer Division and the Bond Division who report to the different financial institutions.

Belinda Potgieter

Office Manager

Belinda and her team monitor sub-divisions and reconcile Trust accounts on a daily basis. Belinda is continuously in contact with the banks ensuring timely financial reports each month.

Administration Department

Our administrative staff demonstrates unwavering dedication to excellence in their roles, underpinned by their natural passion for legal administrative functions. This commitment is further bolstered by our continuous investment in their growth and development. We provide ongoing training and equip them with the latest tools and technologies to ensure they remain at the forefront of industry standards.

Conveyancing Department

Our management team maintains a consistent policy of continuous investment in training and necessary upgrades to ensure that the company remains at the forefront of its industry. This commitment to ongoing development significantly contributes to our notably low staff turnover rate.
